Industrial Manufacturing

Bachelor of Science

Shape the production processes of the future

Industrial Manufacturing combines the mechanical engineering disciplines of design, production technology, machine tools and production processes. Improvement of efficiency and economy in the value chain present a constant challenge. Cutting-edge, future-oriented production technologies and processes provide the basis to meet this challenge. The Industrial Manufacturing bachelor's programme provides the strong grounding in technical processes, manufacturing processes, materials and production plants which production engineers need.

The 7-semester production engineering bachelor's programme provides know-how of technical processes, production processes, materials and production plant. The Mechanical Engineering sector relies on such specialists.

The future of production engineering lies in digitalization. The internet of things is gaining in importance in companies, particularly in production and manufacturing. The vision: machine tools, robots, production plant are networked and communicate with each other. Therefore, in the future, the Faculty of Industrial Technologies in Tuttlingen will be focusing on the areas of "Industry 4.0" and "Networked Production in the production engineering bachelor's programme.

The production engineering programme trains specialists for a variety of career pathways in many fields of engineering, for example automobiles, aviation, machines or medical instruments. In all these areas, reliable, economically viable and efficient production processes are the deciding competitive factor of German industry. In the Industrial Manufacturing production engineering programme you will gain the key skills needed to plan, develop and realize manufacturing and assembly processes. With this degree you have attractive employment chances in every manufacturing company and sector worldwide, including mechanical engineering, medical and environmental engineering and the automotive industry.

Areas of focus

  • Production engineering
  • Automation technology
  • Machine tools
  • Production planning and organization

Career perspectives

Graduates of the Industrial Manufacturing production engineering programme with the "Bachelor of Science in Industrial Manufacturing" degree, work and think in a creative and holistic environment. They not only view the product, but also the complete production process and they accompany this process throughout, from the first development phase onwards. To achieve this goal, they apply interdisciplinary engineering skills. They concentrate on the development and the conception of production systems, the effective and efficient use of machines and plant, on the development and introduction of new, innovative production technologies and on the sustainability of technologies in companies.

Graduates can work in a range of sectors, from the manufacture of medical devices and instruments, to automobile production, aviation and the production of a whole range of goods.

Areas of employment

  • Planning, development and commissioning of production machines and plant
  • Automation of production processes
  • Development and introduction of new production processes
  • Quality and environmental management
  • Production processes and machine tool technology
  • Work scheduling and monitoring

Production Engineering students study with 100 companies

The Production Engineering programme at the University Campus Tuttlingen is run in close cooperation with industry. More than 100 companies belong to the Friends of University Campus Tuttlingen and are actively involved in the setting up and teaching of the programme curriculum. The course is therefore workplace relevant and highly current: student projects actually take place in the various companies. This gives students insights into the field of mechanical engineering, production engineering and production planning as well as the everyday work and demands of engineers working in this field.
