CHE Ranking takes a close look at study environment
In the latest university ranking, the Faculty of Computer Science at Furtwangen University (HFU) was once again awarded top grades by the students. The ranking which appeared in the ZEIT 2018/19 Student Guide on 8 May 2018, was produced by the Centre for Higher Education Development (CHE).
The Furtwangen Faculty of Computer Science is in the top group of all Computer Science courses in the German-speaking area for "General study environment", "Completion of degree within reasonable timeframe", "Initial study support", "Workplace relevance" and "Support from teaching staff". Besides Furtwangen, only three other Computer Science degree programmes in this year's ZEIT Student Guide were awarded the "green points" which indicate the highest category. Computer Science students at HFU have been giving us top grades for many years now: in the two previous CHE rankings in 2015 and 2012, we also did outstandingly well.
The CHE University Ranking is the largest and most detailed ranking in the German-speaking region, with over 300 universities and over 10,000 programmes being examined. Every year a third of the courses are newly evaluated. In order to do this, students complete detailed questionnaires. This year, in universities of applied sciences, only Computer Science and Nursing Sciences were re-evaluated. For Computer Science, 77 universities of applied sciences in Germany and Austria were compared.
In their regular "Uni Rankings", Wirtschaftswoche Magazine ask, "Which universities produce the best graduates?". To get the results, they ask more than 500 HR managers in small, medium and large companies. Computer Science at Furtwangen University is in the top 10 in Germany according to the current ranking issued by Wirtschaftswoche in January 2018.
Wirtschaftswoche comments: "It's worth it to choose your university carefully. Because a degree from the right "Alma Mater" will improve your career chances." According to the questionnaire, HR managers in German companies pay attention to whether graduates have experience in project work and whether they are aware of current problems in the field - and are able to solve them.
In the "Wirtschaftswoche" university rankings for 2016, the Faculty of Computer Science at Furtwangen University has once again been awarded top marks by Human Resource managers in German companies. The HR managers evaluate German universities for the rankings. The focus lies on employability. With this outstanding placing the Faculty has confirmed its excellent reputation. It has consistently landed in the top 10 of the Wirtschaftswoche rankings in previous years.
Participants were asked which universities prepared students optimally for the needs of businesses. The answer was - those which focus on IT and which offer a broad variety of courses, qualify students best for their start in the workplace. Besides a good grounding in practical experience, the HR managers also place a great deal of importance on the character of the applicants.
For the ranking, 540 personnel staff from small, medium and large businesses were asked to take part. The experts selected from a list of all universities, the institutions whose graduates best meet their expectations. Their opinions confirm the first rate work of the Faculty of Computer Science at HFU.

Computer Science in Furtwangen is in the top group of all computer science courses in the German-speaking region in the categories of "Workplace relevance", "Study begin" and "Completion of degree within reasonable timeframe". In the categories of "General study environment", "Support from teaching staff" and "International orientation", Computer Science also received good grades. In addition, the Furtwangen students rate the IT infrastructure as very good.

Every year a third of the degree programmes are newly evaluated: this year that meant that mathematics, computer science, physics, pharmacy, geography, geosciences,sport/sport sciencs, political science, medicine and dentistry were surveyed. At universities of applied sciences, only computer science and nursing sciences were re-evaluated.
