Nursing practice center for nursing expertise and use of technology in acute hospitals

Motivation

The aim of the "Future of Care" competition is to make the use of innovative care technologies tangible at several locations in Germany. To this end, a care innovation center and four care practice centers (PPZ) will be brought together in a "Future of Care" cluster. In the PPZs, a variety of innovative care technologies are used in everyday care and their functionality is tested and evaluated.

Goals and procedure

In the PPZ-Freiburg, innovative technologies for use in care are tested in the practical care setting of an acute care hospital. These technologies are to be used primarily in three areas of acute care: to reduce noise pollution in intensive care units, to prevent pressure sores and to care for and activate patients suffering from dementia. This is accompanied by extensive user surveys and tests in stressful situations, which include both practicability in day-to-day care and structural requirements. From this, the potential of technical support systems to relieve the burden on nursing staff and to ensure needs-based care for those in need of care is derived.

Innovation and prospects

Parallel to testing in everyday nursing care, training and further education content is being developed for practice-oriented skills development, which will be integrated into training. Ethical, social and legal aspects are continuously taken into account as an integral part of the PPC.
