Participation and co-creation for innovative technologies for informal caregivers and care communities

Demographic change means that more and more people in need of care are being cared for at home.

At the same time, there is a decline in the willingness and ability to provide care within the family and an increasing demand for professional support.

Against this backdrop, there is an increasing discussion about the possibilities of technical support and digital services in informal care.

In order for socio-technical innovations to meet the diverse needs of informal carers and care communities and to meet the specific challenges of informal care settings, this target group needs to be involved in the technology development process.

This is where the PiTiPS accompanying project comes in, in order to advise, support and accompany the participatory development of socio-technical innovations in the joint projects. To this end, it pursues a dual strategy – on the one hand, it is about providing technical infrastructure (various participation labs and a participation hub) and scientific expertise to enable and implement participation processes.

On the other hand, it is about the scientific analysis of these approaches for the further development of theoretical approaches, methods and recommendations for action. By combining these service and research activities, PiTiPS pursues the overarching goal of strengthening the participation of informal carers and care communities in socio-technical innovation contexts, integrating their needs and interests as well as innovation potential into the R&D context and contributing to a long-term improvement in the quality of life of informal carers.
