Barrier-free Furtwangen

As part of the BarrFuS project, a concept is being developed and implemented to improve the activity and participation of older people by removing barriers.

The initial focus of the research is to identify spatial barriers in Furtwangen, such as difficult shopping routes, a lack of lighting and signage, insufficient places to stay, a lack of elevators and tripping hazards. All citizens and the town of Furtwangen should be actively involved in the project to analyze and record the barriers (participative/empowerment-oriented approach). This will not only sensitize younger people to the topic and motivate them to participate in the subsequent implementation steps, but also give older and affected citizens the opportunity to have their say.

In addition to an analysis of the current situation, the accessibility concept will also include specific guidelines for reducing barriers. The individual action steps and measures will also be prioritized according to the chances of implementation.

As the systematic analysis of the barrier situation in public spaces is based on specially developed assessment tools, the measures in the action guide can be transferred to other municipalities.
