Details of the programme

Programme content and structure

The internationally oriented International Engineering degree programme offers you a unique combination of technology (specialising in mechanical engineering or medical technology), languages and business. We want you to gain as much practical and international experience as possible - giving you the best starting conditions for a successful international career!

Basics and languages

In your first two semesters of IEB, you will learn the basics of engineering, intercultural competence and business. We supplement this knowledge with intensive language lessons in another foreign language (either Chinese, French, Spanish or German).

Discover your preferences

From the third semester onwards, you will be taking your advanced level courses and can choose between specialising in mechanical engineering or medical technology. And then there is the exciting decision of where you'd like to spend your semester abroad! Studying at one of our numerous partner universities worldwide is free of charge for you.

Practical conclusion

After the semester abroad, numerous interesting internship and thesis options await you. You choose a company in which you would like to work for a semester – and often the topic for your bachelor's thesis is found there (as well as many contacts!). With the IEB degree, you have excellent opportunities on the national and international job market.

Entry requirements
  • German university entrance qualification:
    • Allgemeine Hochschulreife, Fachhochschulreife, Fachgebundene Hochschulreife

You can easily verify equivalency using the DAAD admissions database. If the database indicates that you are required to take the “Feststellungsprüfung”, direct equivalency is not granted. In that case, you would typically need to complete either one year of university studies in your home country or a one-year preparatory course in Germany (Studienkolleg) to qualify for admission to a bachelor’s programme in Germany. However, in such cases, Furtwangen University offers a unique direct admission pathway (“Smart Admission”) to this programme. Detailed information is available on our dedicated Smart Admission page.
