Receive environmental information based on location and context - that is Environment 4.0!
Information directly related to the environment can be displayed via smartphone
As part of the state-wide digitalization strategy digital@bw, three projects "Environmental data 4.0", "Environmental search 4.0" and "Environment digital 4.0" are being funded in the field of action "Sustainable digitalization". IIIUS at Furtwangen University is mainly conducting research in the "Environment digital 4.0" project.
Environmental sensors are already measuring air quality or traffic flows around the clock. They transmit the data obtained directly to the internet. AR applications can add additional information to the environment. Built-in sensor technology enables the environment to be recognized and objects and information to be placed precisely. For example, shy animals such as woodpeckers can be shown in their typical habitats, accompanied by sounds and further information can be provided. The playful approach of the new technologies in particular offers a great opportunity to get people excited about the interrelationships in the environment.
One specific use case for this new technology is the forest adventure trail at the Rappenwört nature conservation center in Karlsruhe. Visitors will be guided through the forest using AR and will be able to experience various environmental scenarios. The new forms of visualization can, for example, display different water levels in flooded areas or make the consequences of climate change tangible on site.
