Learning Centre on Schwenningen Campus

HFU Successful Start

"Learn efficiently, pass exams" This is the slogan of the new Learning Centre on the Schwenningen Campus which opened in Summer Semester 2019. On Wednesdays from 2.00 - 5.30pm students can come to the Learning Centre with both course specific and general questions and problems. Student tutors from all bachelor's programmes (until now only from the MME and MLS Faculties) on the Schwenningen Campus are available to answer questions.

Students work in rooms A 0.08 -  A 0.11 either on their own or in groups. For this reason the rooms are divided up into quiet rooms and group workrooms. The 17 tutors are available during the whole time to support the other students as best they can. If they cannot answer a subject-specific question, the relevant teaching staff are not far away. This semester 85 students attended the Learning Centre on the Schwenningen Campus.

The Learning Centre was set up as part of the "HFU Successful Start" project. Tutors can contact the project coordinators or the professors who actively support the Learning Centre. Prof. Dr. Kirstin Tschan (Faculty MME) and Prof. Dr. Holger Conzelmann (Faculty MLS) attended the Learning Centre this semester on a regular basis and set up the Centre together with Prof. Dr. Ekkehard Batzies (Faculty MME).

At the beginning of the coming semester a qualification week will be organized for the tutors. The aim is to reflect on the experiences of the Summer Semester, to discuss the tutoring challenges that arose, and to allow the tutoring group to get to know each other in a relaxed atmosphere.

The Learning Centre will be offered again next semester, this time on all three campuses — Schwenningen, Furtwangen and in Tuttlingen. Planning is already underway. Advertising materials are being prepared and the Learning Centre will be introduced in various HFU committees such as the advisory network, the QM Board, in AStA and the Faculty Boards in Schwenningen and during individual Faculty Board meetings.

The first planning meeting for the new Learning Centre in Furtwangen in the Winter Semester 2019/2020 will take place on 16 July 2019. The meeting will take place in Room B1.23 at 10.00am.

If you think the Learning Centre is a good idea for our students, then feel free to let us know. Questions and suggestions to Dr. Elmar Dammann (dae(at)
