Ducks in last year's race

Duck races on Breg run by Furtwangen University students

Which rubber duck will cross the finish line first? On Tuesday, 4 June, the duck race will once again take place on the Breg in Furtwangen. A project group of business information systems students at Furtwangen University is currently in the middle of preparations.

As the students are designing the duck race as part of their course “Project Management in Logistics”, it is not only about fun but also about technology. The race result is determined by a semi-automated identification of the rubber ducks.

The race will take place on Tuesday, 4 June starting at 3.30pm. The ducks will be launched into the water at the bridge at Rößleplatz/Coelestine-Eisele-Straße in Furtwangen, the race ends at the bridge at Baumannstraße or, if the water level is low, at the bridge to the C Building. At the finish line, the ducks are driven together through a narrow opening so that only one duck at a time swims through the finish line and is registered.

The project also includes a sponsorship concept for various prizes, which are provided by regional companies, among others. Race participants can find out about the prizes here: https://entenrennen-furtwangen.de. The order in which the ducks reach the finish line will also be published there on the afternoon of the race.

Ducks cost €2.50 per ticket. Proceeds from ticket sales will go to the Bregtäler Kinderfonds. Tickets can be purchased at various points of sale in Furtwangen: City Kebap, Papeterie Besenfelder, Morys Hofbuchhandlung Furtwangen and Edeka Bruder in Bregstraße.
