Job description and career perspectives

The top level career pathways are extremely diverse. The following are some of the areas where our graduates work:

Medical Technology Firms:

Development and optimization of medical devices, implants and technical aids for diagnostics and treatment, supervision of approvals for national and international market. The Technical Physician is the medical-application-oriented specialist contact person for doctors, research and development partners and other users of the devices which have been developed. They can also be involved at a high level in product management.

Research Institutes and Universities:

Research and Development in the area of high-tech systems (e.g. intelligent implants, navigation systems for neurosurgery and orthopaedics, minimal invasive surgery, etc.), working together with doctors and nursing staff to use simulations of diagnosis and treatment by means of virtual diagnostics and guided therapy, thus optimal preparation of the doctors for real-life situations, cooperative execution of clinical studies.

Clinics, Hospitals and Medical Service Centres:

The application of complex technical devices, such as cardiac support systems and extracorporal circulation, anaesthetic and respiration technologies, minimal invasive surgery, the application of invasive technical systems for cooperation with the operator in combination with imaging and interventional processes, e.g. in neurosurgery, use of intelligent implants. Other fields of work are quality assurance and hospital management.

Medical Laboratories:

Application-oriented R&D of medical high-tech systems, lab and project management.

Government Offices and Authorities and Medical Insurance Firms:

Evaluation and approval of technical medicine devices and assessment of health benefits for patients, as well as quality control and scientific evaluation of the technical, medical devices.

Hospitals and Specialist Clinics, Cardio-vascular perfusion

Application of complex technological devices such as heart support systems and extra-corporeal circulation (cardio-vascular perfusion), anaethetics and respiration technologies, minimally invasive surgery, imaging techniques and the use of intelligent implants. Further career fields are quality assurance and hospital management.

Emergency Medicine / Emergency Services / Critical Care Transport:

Use of  innovative technical medicine systems such as heart and lung support systems and other extra-corporeal life support devices, in cooperation with emergency doctors and critical care doctors, as well as training in use of such devices.
