Award for bachelor thesis with an unusual topic
David Reinbold was awarded the prize of the German Society of Perfumers in SEPAWA e. V. (European Professional Association for Detergents and Cleaning Agents, Cosmetics and Perfumery Industry) for his bachelor's thesis. In his thesis entitled "Digitalisation of Scent and Olfaction", Reinbold investigated how scents can be represented digitally and to what extent scent and flavour manufacturers are successful in solving this complex problem. It is currently possible to reproduce visual, auditory and haptic sensory impressions using virtual reality. Taste and smell cannot yet be reproduced digitally, although it was possible to send an email with a scent as early as 2001. The "iSmell from Digiscents" was able to send emails with links to smells using a connected USB stick - but the still immature technology only included a few and mostly unpleasant odours.
David Reinbold completed his degree in Business Management and Psychology at HFU with his thesis, which was supervised by Prof. Dr. Kai-Markus Müller, Professor of Consumer Behavior.
