Problem definition
The rapidly growing transportation of goods in and around Karlsruhe has so far mainly been carried out by road, which is harmful to the climate. The renowned consortium behind the regioKArgoTramTrain project is focusing on the railways and wants to transport goods in future in streetcars that are currently in daily use in the city and region.
Project goal
The aim of the project is to achieve efficient, sustainable transportation in the city and region with a low ecological footprint. AI-supported technology in the vehicle and a delivery robot on the platform will enable the combined transportation of people and goods on existing infrastructure - simple, flexible - in line with the project slogan “Moving people and goods together”.
Implementation
Internal link opens in the same window:The Institute for Intelligent Interactive Ubiquitous Systems (IIIUS) is particularly concerned with the following issues:
- Researching the acceptance of combined passenger and goods transportation in the population.
- Conception and development of prototypical measures for human-machine interaction in order to make transportation as user-friendly as possible.
- Development of a visualization based on control station data to clearly demonstrate the functionality and advantages of the system.
