Producing new products sustainably

One of the main aims of the Technology Center is to carry out bioprocesses to manufacture new products.

The aim is to use renewable raw materials as well as residual and waste materials from other processes in order to produce new products sustainably.

Students can plan, carry out and evaluate various process steps or sub-processes directly on the plant. They accompany the process with analytical methods in order to check its efficiency and quality.

Various facilities for carrying out biological processes are available in the Technology Center:

  • Eight stirred tank reactors with a volume of between 1 L and 20 L
  • Two multi-chamber fermenters
  • One system with coupled bioreactors
  • Various incubators

In addition to the general laboratory equipment, the Technical Center also has modern equipment for in-process analysis.

These include:

  • HPLC systems (high pressure liquid chromatography)
  • Gas chromatograph
  • UV-Vis spectrometer
  • Various systems for online data acquisition (pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen, conductivity, etc.)
  • Various gas analysers for online measurement of gas components
  • Process control system
