Practical mentoring supports early-career female academics on their career path
The External link opens in a new window:Traumberuf Professorin Plus (Dream Job: Professor Plus) funding project, run under the organisational leadership of Hochschule Karlsruhe, aims to attract more qualified women to professorships at universities of applied sciences (HAW) and the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University (DHBW).
A central component of the programme is a one-year mentoring programme in which experienced professors provide individual support to early-career female academics. The mentors provide insights into the everyday working life of a professor and offer support in areas such as doctoral studies, applications and appointment procedures.
In the third round of the programme, which started on 23 January and in which Furtwangen University is also participating, Prof. Dr. Maja Temerinac-Ott is mentoring Liane-Marina Meßmer, a doctoral student and academic staff member at the Internal link opens in the same window:IDACUS Institute. Prof. Dr. Temerinac-Ott is specifically committed to promoting women in scientific and technical subjects, especially in computer science. Liane-Marina Meßmer is using the mentoring to prepare herself professionally and strategically for her career path.
The mentoring is supplemented by accompanying workshops and online formats that prepare participants for future tasks in teaching and research. The project is funded by the European Social Fund Plus (ESF Plus) and the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts (MWK).
