Protective shield made of bits and bytes

Digitalisation brings with it great economic potential, but also challenges. Spectacular cyberattacks on government and private sector infrastructures or smartphones illustrate how important IT security and data protection are for the digital future.

The security of critical IT infrastructures, such as data centres or networked transport systems, must be guaranteed at all times.

In the Networks and IT Security laboratory, our students deepen their knowledge in the areas of cryptography, security management, types of attack, forensics and protective measures. In this way, they learn how to develop systems that meet the high and constantly expanding security requirements of the networked world.

Purpose of lab
  • Application of methods for detecting faulty configurations in networks and computer systems and for detecting programming errors
  • Use of virtual resources to analyse network traffic, run through attack scenarios and carry out or fend off attacks against specific services
  • Development of secure IT systems
Lab equipment
  • Isolated network (private cloud) for conducting safety-critical experiments
  • Typical network components and server hardware
  • Flexible infrastructure for providing preconfigured virtual machines
  • Tools for carrying out analyses and attacks
