Intelligent user interfaces for adaptive control centre systems in public transport
The overarching goal of the IADAPT project is to develop a new generation of interactive, adaptive guidance systems. In this respect, both adaptation by the system, known as adaptivity, and user-centered methods are important. In some cases, the latter must be completely rethought for adaptive systems due to their dynamics. Research into suitable interaction strategies that enable adaptivity, dynamics, intelligent systems and also adaptability with a high level of effectiveness, efficiency and user satisfaction represents a challenge.
For this reason, IADAPT addresses several fields of innovation. On the one hand, new technologies, interaction strategies and methods for control center user interfaces are being developed and supplemented with adequate methods in the area of user experience. On the other hand, technologies for adaptive user interfaces and information in public transportation are being researched that are not yet represented on the market or in applied research. Against the background of the shortage of skilled workers, it is also highly relevant to examine the workplace design and support of control centre employees with regard to user experience and innovative technologies. Furthermore, the optimisation of ITCS software and thus the further development of the technology makes a direct contribution to the promotion of sustainable mobility. Topics such as intergenerational justice, inclusion/participation, as well as the shortage of skilled workers, internationalisation, security/error tolerance, information overload and system resilience, make it clear that dynamic solutions adapted to the users and the task at hand, especially in areas such as (increasingly distributed) control centre systems, are of overriding interest to the economy and society. These are to be implemented in local public transport as an exemplary solution in cooperation with the market leader INIT.
