Erasmus+ exchange promotes inter-European cooperation of teachers and students
On 25 and 26 November, Furtwangen University (HFU) welcomed two visiting professors from the Business Academy Aarhus in Denmark as part of the Erasmus+ programme. The visit by Prof. Peter Bertelsen and Prof. Simon Laub provided an exciting opportunity for an intensive exchange on current topics such as robotics, artificial intelligence, and interactive systems.
Prof. Maja Temerinac-Ott, Professor of Machine Learning, and Faculty Advisor Cornelia Kellermann accompanied the Danish guests during their two-day stay.
The first day's programme included a tour of the laboratories of the Faculty of Medical, Health & Life Sciences, an insight into the Faculty of Computer Science & Applications and a tour of the campus. This was followed by an exchange on robot programming and the use of AI in teaching.
The afternoon concluded with a tour of the Institute for Intelligent Interactive Ubiquitous Systems (IIIUS) led by Prof. Thomas Schlegel. A joint dinner provided an opportunity to discuss existing and future collaborations – including with Prof. Achim Karduck, who is responsible for the semester abroad and student exchange at HFU.
Insights into teaching and research at HFU
On the second day, the Danish guests gained comprehensive insight into computer science teaching. They attended lectures such as “Fundamentals of Robotics” and “Deep Learning” as well as related practical courses. The exchange with Prof. Ralf Gerlich about the MBot/Nyrio robotics platforms was followed by a tour of the Business Administration and Engineering laboratories. The visit was rounded off with a tour of the HFU Smart Home, where innovative applications for networked living environments were presented and an exchange with the Dean of Computer Science, Prof. Elmar Cochlovius, took place.
Deepening the partnership
The two-day exchange laid the foundation for future joint projects between HFU and Business Academy Aarhus. Both sides showed great interest in further expanding cooperation in the fields of robotics, AI and interactive systems.
