36th Furtwangen Safety Dialogue

to HFU News

Safety is everywhere—in the kitchen, at the gas station, or in large chemical plants. But what exactly does plant safety mean?

On Thursday, 4 December 2025, Dr. Matthias Münks, Global Head of Pipeline Technology at Boehringer Ingelheim, will talk about everyday plant safety between technology, regulations, and concepts.

His lecture on plant safety entitled “From the kitchen to the chemical plant: Why plant safety affects us all” takes place in Room C 0.04 on the Furtwangen Campus of Furtwangen University (HFU), starting at 5.00pm.

The event is part of the “Furtwanger Safety Dialogue” lecture series, which is organised by the “Security & Safety Engineering” degree programme, this time for the 36th time. In this lecture series, experts from the professional field regularly give presentations on relevant topics in the safety and security industry.

All interested parties are welcome to attend the free event; prior registration is not required.

We encounter security everywhere – in the kitchen, at the gas station, or in large chemical plants. But what exactly does plant safety mean, and why does it affect us all?

In this presentation, we take an exciting look behind the scenes of the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Learn how state-of-the-art technology and strict safety concepts protect people and the environment worldwide.

From the origins of plant safety, such as the dioxin disaster in Italy, to India and Germany, to everyday topics such as plasticizers – this presentation shows why it is so important to be aware of hazards.
