In his lecture “Science in Film & Television,” Prof. Dr. Magnus Schmidt demonstrated special effects from the cinema live.
Review of 2nd HFU Summer School
Under the slogan “Summer, Sun, Science,” the HFU Summer School kicked off for the second time during the summer break. At the Furtwangen, Schwenningen, and Tuttlingen locations, the speakers captivated the audience with science and its diverse topics.
The start of the holidays was spectacular − the first two weeks of the holidays featured game programming, scientific writing, the history of anesthesia, maths tricks, science in film and television, and disaster control theme days. The programme continued in the middle of the holidays with the superpowers of science and electrical adventures. The final sprint included a tour of the world of devices, the microbe of the year, and thinking computers, before the summer school concluded with a journey to the Orient and its fascinating contributions to science.
A total of over 240 guests attended the summer school lectures and workshops. Fifteen children and young people who took part in at least three events each received a surprise gift afterwards as well as a certificate of participation.
“We were very satisfied with this year's Summer School,” says Prof. Dr. Magnus Schmidt, initiator of the event series. Dr. Angela Magin, who took over the organisation, thanked all the speakers and the dedicated helpers at the various locations adding, “After the Summer School is also before the Summer School – we're already planning for next year!”
