KImAge project seeks participants
We encounter aging in many different ways in everyday life − as activity and joie de vivre, but also as impairment and loss. Our perception of age(ing), shaped by individual experiences and social images, has a significant influence on our own experience.
The KImAge research project at Furtwangen University is investigating how, where, and when people perceive images of age in everyday life. The aim is to document and scientifically analyse situations, experiences, and impressions related to aging. To this end, participants aged 18 and over are sought who will capture their personal images of aging in the form of photographs. The photos should show how and where the topic of aging and old age is visible in the Black Forest and beyond. The contributions will be uploaded to a secure database via the project website: www.kimage-hfu.de.
As part of KImAge – a project funded by the Carl Zeiss Foundation and led by Prof. Verena Klusmann-Weißkopf (Faculty of Health, Medical & Life Sciences) – the submitted photographs will be stored anonymously, together with a short commentary. A specially developed category system supports an AI model that systematises the large amount of image material. Processing is done entirely offline, so that the data does not enter the public internet.
With separate consent, selected photographs may be presented publicly. A traveling exhibition is planned for the end of the project, and prizes will be awarded for particularly expressive contributions.
Participation is easy − after registering at www.kimage-hfu.de, you can upload your own photographs and comments. Snapshots from everyday life, professional life, or leisure time are expressly welcome. For photos with recognisable people, consent should be obtained. Privacy protection is of course guaranteed − email addresses are stored separately from the image data, and it is not possible even for the project team to assign the images to individual persons.
For each photo, you can decide separately whether public use is permitted. Selected contributions may be used in the context of project communication or exhibitions. In the event of an award or publication, contact will be made exclusively via an anonymous personal code.
