Furtwangen University launches public lecture series on “Interdisciplinary Security”
Furtwangen University (HFU) has launched a new university-wide lecture series on the topic of “Interdisciplinary Security” in the 2025/26 winter semester. With these lectures, HFU is focusing on the topic of security and highlighting current challenges from technical, medical, social and legal perspectives. The public lecture series underscores Furtwangen University's unique expertise in this forward-looking field and is aimed at interested parties across the region.
The series kicked off on Thursday, 16 October with Dr. Matthias Bollinger, who holds a professorship in clinical medicine at Furtwangen University. In his lecture on “Mass Casualty Incidents Involving Contaminated Victims (CBRN/MANV),” he provided practical insights into the medical and organisational challenges that arise in the event of a mass casualty incident involving exposure to chemical, biological, or radiological substances. The focus will be on how interdisciplinary cooperation between medicine, technology, and emergency response organisations helps to care for people, manage risks, and protect emergency personnel.
The lecture series is offered in a hybrid format: Participation is possible both on campus in lecture hall O 0.10 (Luisenstraße) on the Furtwangen campus, and online. The livestream is available at the following link: hs-furtwangen-de.zoom-x.de/j/62073325725.
In the following weeks, further lectures will focus on various aspects of security – from human-machine interaction to disaster control and radiation protection to issues of public safety and disinformation. The next lecture by Prof. Dr. Birgit Reime, entitled “Suicide Prevention – Strategies for Universal, Selective, and Indicated Prevention,” takes place on Tuesday, 28 October, at 5.30pm.
Participation in the lecture series is free of charge. Registration is not required.
