IMTT participates in exchange event at the Schwarzwald-Baar Regional Offices
How do we want to treat people with dementia – in everyday life, in the healthcare system, and in society? Under the title “Understanding dementia – accepting challenges, discovering opportunities,” a joint event organised by the Schwarzwald-Baar-Kreis Health Network and Furtwangen University took place mid-July at the Schwarzwald-Baar-Kreis Regional Offices.
Numerous visitors took the opportunity to learn, exchange ideas, and discover new perspectives on dealing with dementia. Prof. Dr. Verena Klusmann-Weiβkopf highlighted the importance of images of aging for our health and clearly showed how ideas about growing older influence our well-being and social participation. Dr. Anja Rutenkröger (Dementia Support Stuttgart) emphasized the central role of sport and exercise for people with dementia. Joint hikes clearly demonstrated how such activities create joie de vivre and strengthen social connections. Dr. Susanne Langkau, Susanne Weh, and Carolina Bravo from the Schwarzwald-Baar Clinic discussed the particular challenges for people with dementia in everyday hospital life and provided valuable practical tips for improving understanding and support in a targeted manner.
Between the presentations, participants took advantage of the information street — including the stand of the Care and Technology Lab (IMTT) at HFU — to network with various specialist departments and learn about innovative aids. The concluding panel discussion provided an opportunity for open questions and the exchange of personal experiences.
