An insight into the Technical Center

Laboratory tour on the Schwenningen campus of Furtwangen University

Why do Furtwangen University (HFU) students produce fruit brandy? The answer to this question will be provided during a guided tour of the HFU Distillery and other laboratories on the Schwenningen campus on Tuesday, 29 July. Besides the HFU Distillery, where students can try out the production of beer and the “HFU Spirit” fruit brandy, two other laboratories will be introduced on the tour. In the Technical Center, participants can view food processing equipment and learn which methods can be used to sustainably process waste materials from agriculture and industry. “In the Chemistry Lab, we then finish by showing how we can break down substances at a molecular level using state-of-the-art technology,” reports Prof. Dr. Magnus Schmidt, Vice-dean for Marketing and Site Development and Professor of Organic and Bioorganic Chemistry.

The tour starts at 5.30pm in the courtyard of HFU in Schwenningen (Jakob-Kienzle-Str. 17). Everyone is welcome to attend. No prior registration is required.

“The HFU laboratories are diverse and I'm pleased that we can give an insight into our everyday teaching and research with the guided tours,” says Dr András Kovács, the organiser of the laboratory tour. “We are already planning further events in this series to present the diversity of topics and laboratories at the university.”
