Professor at Furtwangen University on the board of the newly founded German Society for Game Sciences
The importance of games for society was recently demonstrated at the founding of the new German Society for Game Sciences (DGSW) in Frankfurt, where representatives from game research met. Prof. Jirka Dell'Oro-Friedl from Furtwangen University (HFU) was also present and became a founding member of the board. “The founding of the society is an important step towards establishing game science as a recognised discipline in Germany,” explains Prof. Dell'Oro-Friedl. The founding members of the DGSW come from more than 20 different colleges and universities from a wide range of disciplines such as design, psychology, art and computer science. The DGSW represents diversity from card games to computer games.
"With the DGSW, we want to strengthen national and international exchange in the discipline of game science. We are also positioning Germany in the growing international field of research," says Prof. Dell'Oro-Friedl. As Dean of Studies for the “Games and Immersive Media” course, he oversees the development of game science at Furtwangen University.
The central projects of the newly founded society are the establishment of thematic working groups, the development of an academic infrastructure for research and knowledge transfer as well as the regular organisation of academic events.
