Chinese authority visits Furtwangen University's Innovation and Research Center

The Innovation and Research Center (IFC) at Furtwangen University (HFU) in Tuttlingen received a special visit from Shanghai last week. While the “Shanghai Medical Products Administration” (state supervisory authority for medical products) from China was a guest at KARL STORZ, it took the opportunity to visit the university and the IFC. Regina Storz-Irion and Professor Dr. Michael D'Agosto welcomed the guests warmly and presented the work of the IFC and the courses on offer at HFU, in particular the “Medical Devices - Regulatory Affairs” master's programme.

The HFU Innovation and Research Centre brings together research institutes such as the Institute for Advanced Manufacturing (KSF), laboratories for hydrogen and fuel cell research and various cooperation and project partners such as the Medical Mountains cluster organization. “The Innovation and Research Center mainly concentrates on exchanging ideas with companies and transferring knowledge and technology,” explained Regina Storz-Irion, who works as an innovation consultant at the IFC. During a tour of the building, the guests were particularly interested in the support provided to founders, who are not only supported at the IFC by the HFU start-up consultancy startUpCampus, but can also use facilities such as MakerSpaces and creative spaces or rent their own office space for the first time.

Professor Dr. Michael D'Agosto introduced the delegation to Furtwangen University with its various campuses and the programmes it offers, as well as the study concept of the part-time master's degree in Medical Devices - Regulatory Affairs (MRA), for which he, as Dean of Studies, is responsible. Delegates were particularly interested in the concept of close cooperation between industry and the university on the Tuttlingen campus. After a lively exchange, medical technology experts from both countries agreed that they would like to further explore the possibilities of study and research exchanges in future.
