Institute for Microsystems Technology at microTEC Southwest Cluster Conference 2025
The Institute for Microsystems Technology (iMST) once again maintained a strong presence at the microTEC Southwest cluster conference on May 19–20, 2025. The event—hosting over 200 participants from industry, academia, and politics—was held for the 20th time and is a powerful testament to the region’s thriving medical technology sector.
At the accompanying exhibition, iMST showcased its latest developments—such as smart contact lenses, balloon catheters, and laser-manufactured micro‑coils—which attracted considerable interest.
During the “Young Talents meet Industry” poster session, four current HFU projects were also presented, including two Master’s theses from the Micromedical Engineering programme. Meanwhile, Sven Schumayer delivered an impressive presentation on “Intelligent Intraocular Implant: Design and Testing of an Intraocular Electrode for Biopotential Detection,” representing a forward-looking contribution to medical technology.
A special highlight for the entire institute was the VIP lunch, where Dr Nicole Hoffmeister‑Kraut, Minister of Economic Affairs of Baden‑Württemberg, discussed research and industry cooperation with Prof Dr Volker Bucher, Dr Julien Petit, and Dr Andras Kovacs.
In total, eight HFU representatives were actively involved in the conference. Their broad engagement underscored the role of HFU and iMST as a key innovation partner in microsystems and medical technology in the region.
