Annual student Duck Race on the Breg
On Thursday, 26 June, it's Duck Race time again on the Breg, organised by a project group of business information systems students from Furtwangen University (HFU). The students organise the duck race as part of their “Project Management in Logistics” course, so it's not all just fun. For example, the race result is determined by a semi-automated identification of the rubber ducks. This time, a total of 1,400 rubber ducks − 600 more than last year − will compete to cross the finishing line first.
The ducks will be released into the water on Thursday, 26 June at 3.30pm at the Rößleplatz/Coelestine-Eisele-Straße bridge in Furtwangen. The finishing line is at the Baumannstraße bridge, or if the water level is low, at the bridge next to HFU C Building. At the finishing line, the ducks are driven together through a narrow stretch so that only one duck at a time swims through the finish line and is registered.
The project is sponsored by regional companies who provide various prizes. Race participants can find out about the prizes here https://entenrennen-furtwangen.de. The order in which the ducks reach the finishing line will also be published there on the afternoon of the race.
A ticket for a duck costs €2.50. All proceeds from ticket sales will go to the Schwarzwald-Baar district children's home in Donaueschingen and the Bregtäler Kinderfonds. Tickets can be purchased at various points of sale in Furtwangen: Pizza Point Furtwangen, Dynamic Fitness Furtwangen, Mory's Hofbuchhandlung and Papeterie Besenfelder.
