One-day seminar on “Safety at the university workplace - protection against violence and school shootings”
Furtwangen University (HFU) is offering a new one-day seminar that deals with an increasingly important topic in the university context: protection against violence and school shootings. In view of the regrettable incidents in cities such as Mannheim and Heidelberg and threatening emails sent to universities, it is clear that verbal attacks and violent assaults are no longer isolated incidents.
The seminar aims to raise participants' awareness of preventative measures and better prepare them for potentially dangerous situations. The target group includes university employees who regularly have customer contact at central facilities or in faculties and degree programmes.
An experienced team of lecturers has been recruited to run the seminar: Prof. Dr. Ludger Stienen, security scientist at HFU, brings extensive knowledge of universities and offers valuable assessments on dealing with violence and aggression. He will be supported by Ernst-Heinrich Lederle, a former police officer with over 40 years of experience, who worked for many years as a conflict consultant at Freiburg Police Headquarters.
The seminar has already been very well received at Furtwangen University and has now also been offered to employees of other universities and colleges. It will take place again in Schwenningen on 18 September, 2025.
