Excellent insights into production at ANF in Lingen (Ems)
Lingen (Ems) - As part of a special visit, Advanced Nuclear Fuels GmbH (ANF), a subsidiary of Framatome GmbH, offered an impressive tour of its state-of-the-art production facility. The participants were given detailed insights into the production processes and quality assurance measures of the globally active nuclear technology specialist. Particular emphasis was placed on innovations in the areas of safety and efficiency, which make ANF a leading company in the industry.
The tour was followed by an academic exchange in the company's meeting room. PhD candidate Julius Wiggerthale presented the current results of his dissertation “AI in safety-critical applications” in the presence of his doctoral supervisor, Prof. Dr. Christoph Reich from Furtwangen University. Mr. Wiggerthale's presentation marked an important milestone on the path to his doctorate and demonstrated practical research with a direct link to industry.
Another topic of the exchange was our current project “Human in the Loop XAI”. The project is about making the visual inspection of objects safer with an iterative human-in-the-loop approach for the continuous optimisation of ML models. With a particular focus on the safety of ML applications, the results of this InvestBW-funded project are also extremely relevant for use at ANF.
“Opportunities like this are invaluable for our applied research,” said Prof. Reich, expressing his thanks for the inspiring insight into the company's working world.
