Cooperation project on transcultural learning launched with the Town Art Gallery

An art exhibition at the Town Art Gallery in Schwenningen not only opened an exhibition, but also a special cooperation project with Furtwangen University. “If you've never seen black salt, that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.” With a wink and exciting explanations of the new exhibition "Le Sel Noir. Perspectives on Black Contemporary Art", gallery director and curator Dr. Alejandro Perdomo-Daniels introduced the opening evening.

In the very well-filled lecture hall on the HFU campus in Schwenningen, Lord Mayor Jürgen Roth and Vice-President Prof. Ulrike Salat were delighted with the great interest and this partnership between the gallery and the university. In their welcoming addresses, they expressed that it was not only the physical proximity − the gallery is located directly adjacent to the university − that supported such a joint venture, but also the similarities in terms of content − the international outlook of HFU and its students fits very well with the exhibition's aim of stimulating transcultural learning and social discourse on mutual understanding, belonging and cross-cultural exchange.

HFU professor Julika Baumann Montecinos wants to make the potential of such a cooperation project tangible as part of a special teaching project. Together with several groups of students, she will visit the exhibition, organise a discussion with the artists and a guest lecture and then report on her experiences on 21 May at 6.00 pm as part of the Studium Generale. Besides the gallery director, some of the artists and art school students were also involved in the planning of this teaching format − a genuine transcultural partnership project.
