Tuttlingen Campus partner in “Jugend forscht”

Six Furtwangen University professors represented in jury

In February, 55 of the 191 pupils in the External link opens in a new window: “Jugend forscht ”Regional competition Donau-Hegau visited the HFU university campus in Tuttlingen. In the morning, the young researchers presented their 96 ideas and developments in science and technology to the jury. In the afternoon, they were able to choose between workshops on the Tuttlingen Campus of Furtwangen University (HFU) or at endoscopy manufacturer KARL STORZ SE & Co. KG. The two-day event was sponsored by the City of Tuttlingen and KARL STORZ.

From the medical technology course to materials science
On the Tuttlingen Campus, Vice Dean Professor Dr. Ulrich Gloistein led through the programme. “In addition to an interest in scientific and technical topics, curiosity is the best prerequisite for studying at our engineering school in Tuttlingen,” he says. In the campus workshops, the pupils found out more about the fields of Internal link opens in the same window:medical engineering, Internal link opens in the same window:engineering psychology, Internal link opens in the same window:mechatronics and Internal link opens in the same window:materials sciences as well as about the campus itself. The practicals ranged from “Medical instruments, devices and systems”, “People in the augmented and virtual world” and “Microcontroller technology”, to “New developments in materials science”. “The medical technology instrument parcour was fascinating,” summarised Elias Weckerle, a student at the Birklehof boarding school in Hinterzarten/Breitnau.

The HFU jury members
The 36-member jury for the regional competition consisted of HFU professors Dr. Kurt Greinwald, Dr. Christoph Reich, Dr. Gerhard Kirchner, Dr. Hans-Georg Enkler, Dr. Peter Anders and Dr. Frank Allmendinger. The evaluation criteria are strict − each work is judged twice and only the first-place winners qualify for the state competition. The HFU Tuttlingen Campus has been a workshop partner of “Jugend forscht” since 2019.
