Welcome to the University Open Day!

The next University Open Day takes place on Wednesday 19 November, 2025 on all 3 Furtwangen University campuses and at the Freiburg Study Center.

We're offering taster lectures, laboratory tours, study programme presentations and much more.

The detailed programe will be posted here and continually updated.

Your Open Day at HFU

General information

Our first-year student welcome events take place on our three campuses and at the Freiburg Study Center. 

Finding the right room is no problem! The room names show you where to go - first to the right building, then to the right floor. For example, you will find room B 1.14a in Furtwangen in Building B, in the first floor.

Programme for Faculty I: Computer Science & Applications

  • Computer Science
  • From 9.00am: Information stand and consultation with student ambassadors, professors, and staff – Auditorium (B Building, Room 1.14a)
  • 9.30am: Welcome in the auditorium (B Building, Room 1.14a)
  • 10.00 - 11.15am: Workshop: Generative AI in media informatics – Prof. Dr. Uwe Hahne – Building C, Room 1.04
    Experience an interactive excursion into the world of AI. Discover how machines become creative and take a look behind the scenes of AI applications
  • 11.20am - c. 1.00pm: Workshop: Robotics - Experience computer science! - Prof. Dr. Ralf Gerlich - Robotics Laboratory (C Building, Room 2.16)
    Visit our humanoids in the lab, control mobile robots, and experiment with the robot arm yourself. Talk to professors and students and learn more about our computer science programmes: General Computer Science, IT Security and Cybersecurity, and Artificial Intelligence and Robotics.
  • 1.00pm: Lunch in the cafeteria with student ambassadors.
  • After the workshops, you can continue tinkering in the lab.

    Experience the campus with our student ambassadors. We will show you the coolest spots, take you to the I Building and immerse you in business information systems.

Programme for Faculty II: Engineering & Technology

  • 9.45 - 11.15am: Get to know our labs
    Our degree programmes in Medical Engineering – Clinical Technologies, Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics, and International Engineering offer highly practical training. Our students therefore spend a lot of time in our laboratories during their studies and we'd like to show you around. We'll take a tour of the medical device technology, cardiac technology, and robotics laboratories, as well as our Formula Student project room.
  • 11.30am - 1.00pm: Check out everyday university life
    Sit in on regular lectures with our students. We are offering the following lectures:
