Experts for new materials

For more than 20 years, the Institute of Precision Machining (KSF) has been dealing with the constantly growing problems in the machining of new materials and the increasing demands on machining, mainly in the field of grinding processes, but also in the field of unconventional machining processes (vibration and laser-assisted). In addition to research, teaching is an important area of activity, and we also offer our industrial partners from Germany and abroad the opportunity to do a doctorate, providing them with concrete and innovative solutions to practical problems. In the "Grinding Technology" working group, founded in 1997, around 25 and in the "Carbide, Ceramics" working group, founded in 2015, more than 10 renowned companies are currently working together with the aim of optimising and further developing specific manufacturing processes.

Our industry partners

Nowhere else in the world is there such a concentration of companies whose products require grinding and precision machining. However, the research institutes that focus on this area are located far away from our region and are based at the universities in Aachen, Bremen, Hanover, Braunschweig and Berlin. The KSF has maintained very close contacts with industrial companies for many years and offers concrete and innovative solutions for practical problems. In addition, the KSF organises regular grinding seminars lasting several days with a high practical relevance. For the members of the "Grinding Technology" working group, research is carried out in the areas requested by the partners. This usually involves solving practical problems in the machining of new materials and new requirements for ultra-fine machining.

The industrial partners show their confidence in the activities of the institute through their support and cooperation with the KSF.
