Sustainable software
The Sustainable Software (SUSO) project has set itself the task of supporting the IT and software industry in the development of socially, ecologically and economically sustainable IT products and services. To this end, an online platform is provided on which research-based know-how from the field of software sustainability is prepared, further developed and made available as open source. Sustainability is not just a passing trend, but a fundamental requirement for the future that also affects the research and development of IT products and services.
SUSO enables software companies to reduce costs by providing prepared material that allows companies to realize cost and time savings. Furthermore, the platform is an instrument for reducing risks by preparing for regulatory requirements. The networking between research and industry promotes the development of innovative IT products and services that can lead to a sustainable competitive advantage.
The SUSO project results offer numerous starting points for further research and development work in the field of sustainable software development. The integration of best practices and innovative technologies forms a solid basis for future research projects. New studies can evaluate the effectiveness of various teaching methods and tools for sustainable software development or analyse the impact on companies and society. The knowledge gained and tools developed open up opportunities for the design and implementation of new applications and services that further promote sustainability in software development. The cooperation between research institutions and industrial companies during and after completion of the project via the platform also promotes the continuous exchange of ideas and concepts, allowing new research areas and fields of application to be identified that are of interest to both sides.
