Campus Day at Furtwangen University - an opportunity for companies and students

Ideal opportunities for networking and collecting information, right at your university: Campus Day at Furtwangen University (HFU) in Schwenningen is a real highlight of the semester. The company fair offers numerous opportunities – whether for initial job offers, topics for thesis work that can be completed in cooperation with companies, internships, insight into specific professional fields, or exciting development projects. Everyone involved benefits from this well-established event.

“Where science and business come together, innovation happens,” said HFU President Dr. Alexandra Bormann, emphasising the importance of Campus Day at the opening event. “Tomorrow, our corporate partners will meet students here on equal terms, which is fantastic. In view of the economic situation, we must now take advantage of every opportunity to keep up with projects and developments in joint co-creation so that innovations can emerge.“ Bormann also appealed to the guests on the opening evening to protect academic freedom. ”We see this in other countries,“ Bormann emphasised, ”When academic freedom is restricted, it also affects the ability to innovate."

Dirk Schallock, Chairman of the university Board of Governors and Managing Director of the Metz Connect Group, gave a presentation entitled “Corporate Management in Turbulent Times” during the opening event. In a direct and impressive manner, he conveyed that it is important for management to respond to crises with “professionalism, discipline, and consistency.” In addition to insights into strategies for aspects such as growth, efficiency, and leadership, Schallock also shared his assessment of topics such as digitalisation, “We have to get on with it, otherwise someone else will!” In this context, he also praised the value of partners such as the university.

Later, three students, Johannes Ritter, Isabell Brunnheim, and Vivienne Frank, who are enrolled in the Engineering & Technology, Health, Medical & Life Sciences, and Business, Design & Media faculties in Schwenningen, presented their experiences at Furtwangen University. Their lively descriptions of the very personal and exceptional support, the outstanding academic opportunities, and the very active student life inspired the guests and generated lively discussion during the get-together that followed.

The exchange opportunities at Campus Day the following day were just as lively. Forty-five exhibiting companies took part with their corporate stands, also offering students an inspiring lecture programme with such wide-ranging topics as starting salaries and the application process.
