A new threat management team officially began work at HFU at the start of the winter semester.

Security at our university is a top priority

Security at universities is an issue that is becoming increasingly important throughout Germany. This topic is also given high priority at Furtwangen University (HFU) – particularly fitting, as HFU has also incorporated the topic of safety and security into its range of degree programmes, including the master's in Risk, Reliability and Safety Engineering. The topic of threat management was the subject of a recent master's thesis which investigated the prevalence and structure of threat management teams at German universities, analysed their composition, and highlighted the specific challenges in the university context.

The findings of this research have led to concrete recommendations for action and implementation at HFU – among other things, a position has been created to implement threat management at the university, and a team of employees trained by the Institute for Psychology and Threat Management. A set of rules and regulations have been drawn up, including processes and procedures such as case handling, dealing with those involved, and involving other departments. The threat management team officially began its work at the start of the winter semester; its members are now available to university staff and students as contact persons.
