Official recognition of the “Security & Safety Engineering” degree programme

The bachelor's degree programme in Security & Safety Engineering (SSB) at Furtwangen University has once again been recognised by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Energy as a basic training course for accident prevention officers in accordance with § 7 No. 2 of the 5th BImSchV. The ministry has thus once again confirmed the high technical quality and practical relevance of the programme, which specifically prepares students for high-level responsibilities in the areas of safety management, environmental protection and accident prevention.

The recognition is valid until 30 October 2027 and requires successful participation in the courses defined in the test report. The subject matter covered meets all legal requirements for the training of accident prevention officers – a unique selling point in the higher education sector.

“This renewed recognition shows that our degree programme is not only academically sound, but also relevant to practice and legally recognised,” emphasises Dean of Studies Prof. Dr.-Ing. Marion Meinert. “Our graduates are thus ideally prepared for careers in industry, administration and consulting – wherever safety, environmental and risk management are crucial.”

Incident response officers play a central role in companies that handle potentially hazardous substances − they advise company management on issues of operational safety, incident prevention, and hazard control. Through their education in the SSE programme, students not only acquire the necessary expertise, but also a deep understanding of interdisciplinary security processes, from technical plant monitoring to crisis communication.

With this renewed recognition, Furtwangen University strengthens its position as a leading educational institution for safety engineering in Baden-Württemberg and underscores its contribution to sustainable safety in industry and society.
