Coffee, communication and climate protection

The “Learn with appetite” campaign on the Schwenningen campus set an inspiring example of environmentally conscious behaviour – practical, communicative, and full of enjoyment. The “Learn with appetite” campaign was a complete success – several campaign days focused on sustainable consumption – practical, appealing, and very well received by the students. The focus was on the innovative “CoffeeB” coffee machine, which produces no waste at all – instead of capsules or pads, it uses compostable coffee balls. The machine itself is made from recyclable and repairable parts – a real pioneer in terms of circular economy. One highlight was the stylish coffee-to-go cup in the campus design. Demand was so high that it is almost sold out in the university stores. “A real eye-catcher – and a great reminder of an important message,” said one enthusiastic student. The campaign also made a mark in terms of snack culture – nuts from a regional zero-waste store could be sampled free of charge – without any packaging waste.

The campus libraries actively supported the campaign. “It is important to us not only to teach sustainability in theory, but also to make it tangible and promote dialogue on the subject. This campaign has been extremely successful in doing so,” agree Sabine Vetter-Hauser and Friederike Bross, librarians at the Schwenningen campus library. The students' conclusion is overwhelmingly positive, “I thought it was great – great ideas, delicious coffee, and you really take something away with you for everyday life,” said one participant. “Learn with appetite” provided an inspiring impetus that shows that sustainable action can be easy, attractive – and really delicious.
