The DGSW is led by a diverse team. Prof. Stephan Jacob (Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences) was elected Chair, and Prof. Dr. Jens Junge (Institute for Ludology) is Vice-chair. In addition to Prof. Jirka Dell'Oro-Friedl, numerous other representatives from all over Germany are involved as assessors and founding members. Various working groups, a dedicated academic platform, regular conferences, and the publication of a specialist journal are planned. A particular focus is on promoting young scientists and artists.

With the founding of the DGSW, Germany is taking an important step toward establishing an independent and internationally visible field of game sciences.
