From bachelor's degree to successful doctorate - Anke Parschau earns her doctorate
Anke Parschau, a graduate of the bachelor's and master's degree programmes in Mechatronics at Furtwangen University (HFU), has now earned the title of “Doctor of Engineering” with her research work on the subject of charging processes.
In her doctoral thesis, Anke Parschau investigated “Charging processes for lithium-ion cells and their effect on charging time and service life” and looked at the influence of different charging concepts. “These concepts are also relevant for charging electric vehicles,” explains the engineer. The focus was on the investigation of so-called pulse charging processes. "In these processes, the battery is charged with short pulses instead of a constant current. I investigated the extent to which pulse charging methods lead to faster and more efficient battery charging, extend the service life of the battery and avoid undesirable side reactions," says Parschau. For her work, she set up a pulse charging test bench and used it to cycle various cylindrical cells. She has already published excerpts of her work in two publications.
Parschau was supervised by Professor Dr. Frank Allmendinger at the HFU Tuttlingen campus. The doctorate was completed in cooperation with the University of Stuttgart. "I enjoyed being part of the team in the Energy Storage Systems group at the Tuttlingen campus. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there working on my doctorate and I look back on it with pleasure. I received excellent support and can only recommend a doctorate at HFU in cooperation with the University of Stuttgart," she reports.
Dr. Anke Parschau completed her bachelor's degree in Mechatronics in 2013 and her master's degree in Mechatronic Systems at HFU Tuttlingen in 2018. She then worked for a mechatronics specialist in the region. She is currently employed at Jauch Quartz GmbH in Villingen-Schwenningen in the field of battery technologies. Parschau was one of the first students at the HFU Tuttlingen campus in 2009.
