Exciting insights into penetration tests and cyber security during the practical excursion to Tübingen.
Computer Science visits SySS GmbH
On 5 June, 2025, an excursion to SySS GmbH in Tübingen − the “contact for all IT security issues” − took place. A total of 31 students from various bachelor's and master's degree programmes in computer science at Furtwangen University took part.
The group was welcomed personally by Sebastian Schreiber, founder and managing director of SySS GmbH. In an impressive live demonstration, he highlighted various security gaps in today's IT systems. Among other things, he illustrated the reading of data from an encrypted USB stick, the sending of fake messages between two smartphones of students in the room − and, most impressively, the stealing of a cell phone photo that had just been taken (see picture).
SySS employees also provided fascinating insights into their day-to-day work as penetration testers − either in short presentations or in conversations at the end of the day. True to the excursion motto “Hack and Grill”, this took place on the roof terrace of the company building with a view over the rooftops of Tübingen − including a barbecue and cool drinks.
The excursion was accompanied by Internal link opens in the same window:Prof. Dr. Richard Zahoransky (Dean of Studies of “IT Security and Cyber Security”) and Internal link opens in the same window:Prof. Dr. Olaf Neiße (Head of Hack2Improve), who also strengthened the cooperation between the two partners.
