Andreas Friedrich appointed new Head of Administration of Furtwangen University

Senate and University Board of Governors elect successor to Andrea Linke - to take office in autumn

The Senate and Board of Governors of Furtwangen University have elected a new Head of Administration −Andreas Friedrich from Freiburg was successful after the first round of voting and will become the new Head of Administration at HFU.

The 43-year-old Friedrich previously worked as Managing Director of the Faculty of Environment and Natural Resources at the University of Freiburg. He brings with him a wealth of experience from central positions in academic management and university administration − as he said after his election, ‘I really put my heart and soul into it’ .

Andreas Friedrich, married with two children, lives near Freiburg and knows the Black Forest and Furtwangen University well, ‘I spent my youth in Schiltach and went to school in Schramberg. I've known Furtwangen University and its campuses for a very long time. The future Head of Administration said that he was delighted to be able to take on the responsibility for this strong and innovative university.

Chairman of the Board of Governors, Dirk Schallock, and Peter Umbscheiden, spokesperson for the student body, congratulated the newly elected future Head of Administration warmly. HFU President Dr Alexandra Bormann congratulated her future colleague on behalf of the entire university Executive Board and emphasised how much expertise and experience Andreas Friedrich brings to the tasks ahead, "We are very happy to have someone with a great deal of experience in financial, structural and personnel planning at universities and who also impressed us with his calm and objective manner. I speak for the entire executive team and our university community in saying that we are very much looking forward to working together!

With his election as Head of Administration, Andreas Friedrich succeeds Andrea Linke, who held the position at HFU for six years. Linke was recently appointed Head of Administration at Nürtingen-Geislingen University and will take up this new role in the autumn. ‘I'm delighted that I can now place my duties in the hands of such an experienced and competent successor. HFU is a great university, and Andreas Friedrich can look forward to the challenging tasks and wonderful people here. I'm looking forward to working closely together in the future, both during the handover and later within the academic community!’

The office of Head of Administration at universities is in charge of managing the entire administration. The chancellor is a full-time member of the university executive, responsible for the budget, and with particular responsibility for the areas of economic and personnel administration. Andreas Friedrich's term of office runs for six years.
