ZLL initiatives to promote study skills
The Center for Teaching and Learning at Furtwangen University (ZLL) supports HFU students in applying effective learning strategies with an extensive range of workshops and self-study courses. New types of events are also being tried out at the ZLL − dusting off learning tips while getting to know new people and the FELIX learning platform? This is possible with the “Educational Escape Game”. The game was piloted in the bridging course of the Applied Health Sciences degree programme with around 20 people. In this game, first-year students are asked to help their fictitious fellow students in exam stress. Only if they solve all the puzzles within 90 minutes can the cloud with the valuable exam tips be restored. All teams at the pilot event successfully mastered the challenge having a lot of fun in the process.
In addition to this voluntary additional offer, the ZLL worked with students to develop the “Study Skills” course, which has now been implemented in the Study and Examination Regulations for four degree programmes on the Tuttlingen Campus. What makes it special is the blended learning format. Blended learning is a course that is organised as a combination of synchronous attendance phases and asynchronous online phases (self-study phases). In the self-study phases, students apply the study skills they have learned directly by having to manage their time until the next submission or knowledge check.
