RememTec - spin-off project Interactive media for memory care and social support for patients with dementia

As part of the research surrounding the InterMem and RemeMTI projects, various partners investigated how digital media and interaction technologies can be used to sustainably improve the practice of biography work and memory care.

It was shown that the corresponding systems have positive effects on the well-being of people with disabilities, can be easily integrated into the care practice of elderly care and have a high level of acceptance. In order to make sustainable use of the project results, they are to be further developed as part of a spin-off project into an innovative product package that makes the care process for people with dementia more effective, of higher quality, less costly and thus more attractive for everyone involved.

Current analyses suggest that the market for relevant technical solutions has not developed strongly to date. People with dementia and their carers have so far been able to benefit little from the findings of research because, on the one hand, there are no purchasable products for end customers (including care homes and informal carers) that offer value-added functions in terms of process support, individualization or interaction. On the other hand, the products have hardly been scientifically validated, which makes it difficult to finance them via the health insurance funds, among other things.

With the transfer of research knowledge into practice, the founding team has set itself the task of overcoming the "theory-practice gap" with the help of a RememTec tablet PC app that supports the entire process and thus promotes the quality of life of people with dementia and the quality of work of caregivers.
