Development and qualification of a resource-efficient plain bearing technology for media-lubricated systems in pumps
Pumps in which media-lubricated plain bearings and mechanical seals are installed are widely used in chemical and plant engineering (power plants, industry, buildings). Typical bearing materials are tungsten, cobalt and nickel; however, these raw materials are only available in limited quantities (W, Co) or are classified as hazardous to health (Ni). Wear and corrosion on these bearings also cause considerable damage to systems.
The main aim of the project is therefore to develop and qualify an innovative plain bearing system for media-lubricated applications. The previously used bearing materials are to be replaced by ceramic materials.
