Interactive Memories - technology-supported biography work and memory care
Care means more than just "care" - namely inclusion, enabling participation and strengthening the identity of the person in need of support.
In this context, so-called memory care and the biography work on which it is based are of central importance. In the individual and group activities developed for this purpose, primarily conventional and singular media (mainly photos) are used and these are limited to the individual biography.
With the new digital media and interaction technologies, qualitative developments and new approaches in the area of memory care and biography work for people with (and without) dementia are moving into the realm of what can be achieved and implemented.
The InterMem project develops and evaluates new approaches to support/further develop biographical work and memory care on the basis of mixed reality systems.
If the focus is on the needs and skills of people with dementia, this in no way restricts the use of corresponding applications and products to this user group. An interdisciplinary research approach is being pursued throughout the project. This requires the establishment of a common basis of understanding, a process of learning from each other and a continuous internal discourse and exchange of knowledge within the project.
InterMem is an interdisciplinary effort in the sense of cooperation between the fields of technology and social affairs. The focus is on testing the potential of new digital media and communication technologies for innovative approaches to memory care and biography work.
In addition, the knowledge and developments gained from the project should provide a promising basis for delivering further interactive applications and products to strengthen a living culture of remembrance.
