Research into assistance systems for independent living in old age
Although research into technical assistance systems for independent living in old age has developed rapidly in recent years under the heading of "Ambient Assisted Living", there is still often a considerable gap between technical and non-technical perspectives, both in research and in practice.
There is also still a lot of catching up to do when it comes to transferring new technical solutions into widespread use.
How must technical assistance systems be designed so that they are attractive to older people and carers and can be used in everyday life?
The key lies, among other things, in more efficient cooperation "between the worlds" of technology and care and in the consistent involvement of users in so-called participative development processes.
The two professors are investigating success factors, obstacles and pioneering practical examples at European level in order to develop recommendations for action for stakeholders in science (e.g. in the field of information technology, care management, etc.) and practice (e.g. local authorities, advice centers, technology providers).
