Two women shaking hands the younger one gets a scholarship

With the Germany Scholarship (Deutschlandstipendium), the German government aims to support talented and high-achieving students. In fact, almost as many students are supported by the Germany Scholarship as by the 13 Organisations for the Promotion of gifted Students (Internal link opens in the same window:Begabtenförderungswerke) combined. In contrast to the scholarships awarded by the organisations for the promotion of gifted students, the Germany Scholarship is awarded by the universities. They can award places for the Germany Scholarship according to a fixed funding quota, which means that the number of scholarships is limited.

The Germany Scholarship is usually only awarded for one year, which is why you have to reapply for funding after one year. Sponsors can also tie a specific subject to their funding, which means that some of the Germany Scholarship scholarships are not open to all students.

Applications for the Germany Scholarships 2024/25 are open from 15 June to 30 June 2024. Enrolled students can find further details in FELIX.

Scope of funding

The Germany Scholarship provides €300 per month in financial support, which is independent of income. Half of this, i.e. €150, is provided by the federal government. The remaining €150 are provided by private sponsors such as companies, private individuals or foundations. These can voluntarily supplement the financial support with additional offers such as further training or information events. Another advantage is that the Germany Scholarship can also be received in addition to BAföG.

What requirements do you have to meet?

The Germany Scholarship (Deutschlandstipendium) supports students of all nationalities who have demonstrated outstanding performance in their studies. You should meet the following criteria to have a good chance of receiving a scholarship:

  • Special achievements and successes at school/university
  • Assumption of responsibility in the form of social commitment
  • Overcoming obstacles in your career

How can a company or organisation get involved?

Would you like to support high-performing students financially with €150 per month and thus anchor competent young talent in the region? Then the Germany Scholarship (Deutschlandstipendium) is just right for you!

You get to know talented students and can inspire them with your company at an early stage of their studies. You deepen your partnership with HFU and can advertise with HFU's support.

By networking business and university, you promote the location and, through your financial support, facilitate the opportunity for excellent studies for the scholarship holder and motivate young professionals to remain in the region.

What role do the universities play?

The universities play a central role in the distribution and awarding of the Germany Scholarships and advertise them publicly. They organise the funding, recruit sponsors and are responsible for selecting the scholarship holders. The universities also determine the selection criteria for awarding scholarships themselves and communicate these to the outside world accordingly.

I'm happy to help if you have any questions about the Germany Scholarship!
