Certified expertise
Additional qualification for students of “Security and Safety Engineering” (SSB) and “General Computer Science” (AIN)
The title of IT Security Officer is not protected by law or other regulations. In order to provide students with meaningful proof of their expertise in this area, the HFU Academy has developed a continuing education programme to become an “IT Security Officer.” This programme can be completed with a certificate that is valid for five years.
This certificate course is currently offered to students enrolled in the “Security and Safety Engineering” (SSB) and “Computer Science” (AIN) bachelor's degree programmes. Students in these programmes can earn the certificate as part of their studies at HFU by completing additional coursework.

Format
Information Security Module
This module covers the essential legal principles of information security, the steps and measures required to implement an information security management system (ISMS) in accordance with ISO/IEC 27001, and the application of the process model in accordance with BSI basic protection. Students in the SSB program complete this compulsory module in the fourth semester, while students in the AIN program complete it in the sixth semester. This module must be completed with a grade of 2.7 or better.
Fundamentals of IT Security
The module covers cryptographic fundamentals as well as selected security protocols and services for wired and wireless networks.
Students in the SSB programme complete this additional module in the sixth semester, while students in the AIN program (specializing in networks and IT security) complete it in the third semester.
Project
In the sixth semester, students complete an individual project and a corresponding presentation in the field of information security.
Self-study with the “Handbook for Security Officers in Public Administration”
Selected content required for the final exam is independently studied or reviewed in the sixth semester using the handbook.
Preparation workshop
A preparation workshop takes place before the final exam. The date for this is set jointly with the participants in the certification exam.
Final exam
The final exam (multiple-choice test) usually takes place on Friday in the last week before the start of lectures in the 7th semester.
Qualification
The certificate complies with standards 200-1 to 200-3 of the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI). The examination is conducted in accordance with the examination regulations of the Federal Academy of Public Administration (BAköV) dated January 1, 2007. The certificate is valid for five years.
