Insights into the healthcare system
For professionals working in the fields of health promotion, prevention, and rehabilitation
Health promotion offers numerous professional development opportunities through the use of special diagnostic procedures. The basic principles of the technical application and interpretation of these procedures are part of this continuing education programme. Participants learn about the healthcare system and the application of diagnostic procedures.
Learning objectives and content
This Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) is part of the Master of Science in Interdisciplinary Health Promotion (IGF). After completing “Diagnostics and Management in Health Promotion,” participants will be able to:
- identify and select modern diagnostic procedures in health promotion (metabolic performance diagnostics, movement analysis, anthropometry, life logging, etc.)
- evaluate the most important imaging procedures in terms of effort, cost, and benefit, and name simple diagnostic options
- assess diagnostic tests and their probability of error and reliability, and recognise possible interpretations
- use clinical functional tests to determine health and physical fitness in health management
- present the results trends of diagnostic tests
- develop strategies to increase the probability of results from diagnostic tests
- select diagnostic procedures based on cost-benefit, risk, and effort assessments
- select and apply key principles of biometrics
- identify and apply the most important billing options for health-related diagnostics
- navigate the complex healthcare system
- recognise opportunities, challenges and solutions in the healthcare system
- understand specific management methods and apply them in specific areas of the healthcare system and health promotion
Target group and prerequisites
Professionals working in the fields of health promotion, prevention, and rehabilitation (e.g., physiotherapy, sports science, nutrition science, medicine, health management and health professions)
Reading skills in English are required; classes are held in German.
Prerequisites
Admission to a contact study programme generally requires a university degree or vocational training in a relevant profession, as well as at least one year of professional experience.
Format
Qualification
Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) from the University of Freiburg (15 ECTS credits).
What is a CAS?
A CAS is a continuing education qualification offered by universities, primarily in German-speaking countries (e.g., Switzerland, Germany, Austria).
Objective: To deepen knowledge in a specific subject area.
Structure: Part of a modular system – several CAS can be combined to form a DAS (Diploma of Advanced Studies) or a master's degree.
